This is a project in which I make an exhibition booklet. I chose Yayoi Kusama’s exhibition which was held in the New York Botanical Garden. I tried to express her unique artwork by using different layouts. I used the main three colors that are deep yellow, red and black to create an interesting layout and to show the mood of her artwork. The point of this project is to show who she is and what her artwork is by designing different layouts and color matches.
I wanted her exhibition booklet to look like a piece of Yayoi Kusama work. Yayoi Kusama is one of the most
famous Japanese artists in the world. The circle is always the main shape of her work. Therefore, I used
the circles to design each page. The main color of the exhibition book is yellow (the reason that she uses
yellow in her work), red and black. While reading this book, the audience can envision not only her work but also the mood of her exhibition.
PROCESS
(Experiment)
I experimented with various designs and layouts to find the most suitable one that would complement the artist's work. When one page was complex and diverse, I attempted to create a well-organized, structured design on the next page to achieve a harmonious overall design.
I designed the cover multiple times.
